Feb. 12 – Last Day

Post op clinic was hectic with only one minor surgery of a cleft lip that needed stitching up again. Everybody looked great!  Christian was given a generous gift by the team members because his father was killed and the team members said good bye until next year.

On the bus ride to Quito, I learned that there was a peaceful demonstration yesterday by the police against the military.

The latter part of the day was spent exploring Quito and Plaza Foch. We had a goodbye dinner at a very nice restaurant, Alma. The architecture was gorgeous and it was set up on a hill overlooking the city. It’s hard to believe that this is the poor country where the team just spent weeks repairing burns, and cleft palates that had been ignored for years. Quito is filled with modern architecture and cars everywhere instead of stinky trucks, bikes, goats, cows, and strange looking dogs.

It’s a reminder of how life can be so out of balance.
